How Our Brisbane Team is Responding to COVID-19

“What impacts are you seeing Coronavirus have?” has lately become the question we’re most asked as recruiters. As we near the nine-month mark of our presence in Brisbane, we are navigating a time of unprecedented change both on a global level and, more specifically, within the Brisbane Tech market.

The longer-term effects of COVID-19 are not yet known, but we have taken the uncertainty in our stride and responded to the immediate impacts with the aim of emerging stronger on the other side. Whilst it may not be “business as usual”, our (virtual) doors remain open, and we are committed to supporting candidates and clients throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Remote but On Hand

Although remote working has its challenges, Talenza is well equipped to adapt to these changes and has adjusted the expectations on staff across the business.

Instead of requiring strict eight-hour days, we are promoting flexibility around hours and prioritising mental wellbeing. We also hold regular walking meetings and twice-daily team catchups to make sure everyone has the tools and information required to continue serving their clients.

Supporting Our Clients and Candidates

With the market in such a state of flux, the Brisbane team have made it a point to focus on our existing clients (and only take new referrals) to ensure those we work with have all the guidance and resources they need to withstand these difficult times.

With many of our clients needing to reduce hours/salaries and retrench contractors over the past few weeks, we’re committed to lending a hand in any way we can. For those who have been made redundant, we are offering a range of resources, including interviewing classes, help with CV writing and even an online pub quiz to keep spirits high!

We have also held various roundtables and webinarsfor both clients and candidates on topics such as:

  • Digital transformation
  • Remote onboarding
  • Managing your team remotely
  • Performance management
  • Employee mental health
  • Standing out in a job short market

And coming up, we’ll be speaking to a panel of HR leaders and Talent Managers about the best way to handle redundancies, advice on keeping teams motivated and how to find a path forward – so keep an eye out for our next event!

Summary

COVID-19 has (at least temporarily) created a new reality for us all, but it’s one we’re determined to adapt to and make the most of. As we continue to deepen our roots in Brisbane, we look forward to partnering with you to navigate this period together.

If you need recruitment support or help with your job search, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me– and, most importantly, stay safe and take care of yourself.
