Senior Policy Officer - NSW Government
Location: Parramatta, Sydney, with some WFH flexibility
Rate: $660 per day + Super
Contract Length: 3 months initially with possibility to extend.
Note: Government Policy experience is highly desirable.

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Policy Officer for our NSW Government client who will be responsible for identifying and analysing issues while preparing and delivering draft policy advice to stakeholders.

Primary Purpose of the Role:
The role develops and reviews strategic national and state policy and advice for early childhood, government and non-government schools and post-secondary education to ensure that the best possible outcomes are achieved for NSW.
The role undertakes high level research, including the scoping of policy proposals and the development of policy options, which the Department can rely on for effective decision-making.

Ideal Candidate:
* 5+ years exp.
* Experiecned in identifying and analysing issues along with preparation and delivery draft policy advice to stakeholders.
* Experienced in developing plans for improved solutions and delivery of policies, processes, guidelines, tools and training.
* Experiecne in providing policy advice and subject matter expertise and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.

Key accountabilities
* Lead projects in relation to the development of national policy on early childhood, schools
and post- secondary education in accordance with organisational and operational imperatives, NSW
Government priorities and targets, Commonwealth agreements and legislation to ensure the best
possible outcomes for NSW.
* Develop options for policy proposals taking into account legislation and regulations,
social/economic forces impacting on NSW education and stakeholder views to ensure new and innovative approaches to successful national policy on early childhood, schools and post-secondary
education.
* Manage the implementation of key projects with the guidance of senior officers to ensure they
are delivered on time and to the required standard.
* Prepare quality evidence-based submissions for the Productivity Commission, Parliamentary
enquiries and other external enquiries in a timely fashion to ensure the position of the Department
is well represented.
* Support the Executive Director and senior staff in policy projects and proposals to ensure
their rigour, transparency and effectiveness.
* Ensure accurate and timely preparation of correspondence, briefing notes, submissions and
reports to support the effective operations of the External Relations Policy Directorate.


Key challenges
* Collaboratively working across a range of portfolios in the Department, State Government
Departments, external agencies, states and territories and the Commonwealth to position NSW to
influence the development of national policy and to ensure coordination of effort in preparing
policy options.
* Developing policy proposals in areas of great complexity and considering a diversity of
viewpoints to produce workable and effective proposals.
* Providing advice on, and solutions to, contentious issues within tight timeframes.
