Talenza have partnered exclusively with a financial services firm on the search and selection of a Principal Security Advisor.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a large established team of security professionals, providing advice, design, standards and practices across all IT domains and business functions. You will play a key part in contributing to and driving positive changes across both the Consulting and Standards business areas. As a Principal you will provide staff with accurate and detailed technical security advice regarding platforms, applications, assisting with setting/influencing security direction, providing guidance and input.

We are looking for someone who can drive a culture of security excellence, continuous improvement, automation and simplification, ensuring that the customer requirements are met whilst maintaining rigorous security practices.

The role is paying up to $190,000 package dependent on experience.

The Responsibilities

  • You will be recognised as SME in most Security-related domains by peers and the business, whilst influencing and communication Security Strategy and operational roadmaps
  • You will use initiative to provide consultation, undertake research and development, and set clear security direction for platforms and applications.
  • You will proactively develop and maintain security standards, operational frameworks, undertake programs of work, focussing on technical platform, applications, tools, self-service and documentation.
  • You will also help teams conform to security standards (e.g. MSBs) for IT platforms, tools and environments, helping teams to find the right balance between effective security, achieving risk appetite and cost-effective solutions.
  • You will identify and build tools (self-service & automation) to help with continuous delivery.
  • You will ensure that they company maintains high performing, highly available, and highly secure platforms and applications across internally hosted and externally hosted (cloud) environments.
  • You will be a proactive supportive voice of the organisation's risk community, helping with education, awareness, and compliance.

The Requirements

  • We are looking for someone with a demonstrated advanced technology industry experience in professional security roles - this could be a combination of technical, leadership, audit & risk management, consulting/advisory, analyst or engineering
  • We want someone who can lead, design or architect directions in a complex IT and/or business environment and on complex projects
  • You will need to have a flair for influencing multiple levels of stakeholders, especially senior leadership teams, to achieve security outcomes
  • You will be able to summarise complex issues concisely and have great empathy for the audience and their needs
  • You will being an acute awareness of the regulatory and governance environment in and around the financial services industry both within Australia and offshore
  • It could be beneficial to have experience in providing technical leadership on security consulting
  • We are looking for someone who continuously strives to learn and keep up to date with trends across IT & Security. Therefore relevant industry certifictaions such as CISM or CISSP would be advantageous (but not mandatory).

Bonus points if you have:

  • Working knowledge of 'Lean' and 'Agile' methodologies
  • Technical knowledge of a wide range of security platforms
  • Previous experience with security threat modelling
  • Working knowledge of the operations of a financial institution
