Principal Policy Officer (Group Cabinet Advisor) - NSW Government
Location: Parramatta, Sydney, with great WFH flexibility
Rate: $750 - $800 per day + Super
Contract Length: till 25/02/2022 (highly likely to extend)
Note: Must have Government policy experience.

We are currently seeking experienced Principal Policy Officer for our NSW Government client who will be responsible for ensuring high quality coordination, analysis and advice in the identification, preparation and assessment of Cabinet Submissions for the Department and Ministers' Offices. Along with the Manager Cabinet Performance, the role also builds the capacity of the group and provides corporate support in the development, reform, delivery and implementation of broader policy or project initiatives in line with organisational objectives.

Key accountabilities:
* Prepare and coordinate complex, sensitive, high quality advice on Cabinet Submissions for the Director, Executive Director, Deputy Secretaries, Secretary and Ministers.
* Prepare and coordinate complex, sensitive submissions, reports, briefing notes, policy documentation and correspondence for the review and consideration of the Director, Executive Director, Deputy Secretaries, Secretary and Ministers.
* Draw on comprehensive understanding of government processes, policy coordination skills and ability to work collaboratively, negotiate and influence others.
* Ensure their group maintains an active understanding of Cabinet matters and wider requirements and expectations of Government, particularly on strategic and contentious matters
* Provide advice, support and training to senior Departmental officers on Government and Cabinet matter to ensure the Department's contributions meet the highest standards.
* Build excellent customer relationships and work collaboratively with team members, other teams across business units, subject matter experts, and external agencies to enable the department to meet its current and future strategic objectives.
* Maintain an up to date knowledge of the operations of the Department of Education including current issues, forthcoming events, relevant parliamentary business and Commonwealth initiatives.

Key challenges:
* Maintaining an acute awareness of the issues and political sensitivities of the content of Cabinet Submissions across all parts of the department to enable coordinated and strategic advice for the Director, Executive Director, Deputy Secretaries, Secretary, and the Ministers' Offices.
* Monitoring and meeting tight time frames for Cabinet Submissions when there is a need to gather and integrate information and data from a wide range of sources.
* Managing competing priorities in a distributed setting to progress the Cabinet business of the cluster and the day to day demands of the group.
