The Client
The NSW Department of Education are the largest provider of public education in Australia with responsibility for delivering high-quality public education to two-thirds of the NSW student population. The Transformation Directorate purpose is to partner with the education community to drive insight and innovation in the way the Department delivers lifelong learning outcomes.

The Role
The Data and Analytics team engage with stakeholders across all directorates to deliver strategically aligned outcomes in a timely and cost effective manner. To achieve this goal, the Data Engineering Lead will deliver data engineering pipelines to efficiently process and refresh diverse data sets. These pipelines, are expected to be highly automated, scalable, reliable, responsive and support rapid delivery of new capability. Working in a Dev-Ops model, the Lead will be responsible for the day-to-day operational running of the data engineering pipelines. The role will develop path-to-productions plans for all solutions that will transition to strategic solutions within departments enterprise capability and architecture.

Key Accountabilities

• Create and work with other developers to build data pipelines and data models in Microsoft SQL Server for new business requirements.
• Manage the day-to-day running of the data engineering pipelines and ensure that daily refresh comms are sent.
• Liaise with IT support to raise and follow up on incidents relating to data or infrastructure.
• Liaise with IT delivery to transition solutions to strategic platforms.
• Manage the creation, design and standardisation of business performance dashboards.
• Manage and coordinate the provision of high quality, accurate business data, reporting and analytics to inform decision making and to meet reporting requirements.
• Identify opportunities and lead business analytics projects to develop and implement innovative approaches to solving complex business problems.
• Develop, manage and coordinate effective procedures for the documentation and mapping of Data & Analytics business processes and business requirements to ensure consistency with policy frameworks.
• Foster a culture which drives and encourages high performance, collaboration, agility and accountability in the delivery of educational outcomes aligned with the division's and Department's strategy
• Undertake and deliver projects as determined by the Executive Director to meet the priorities of the Group.
• Lead and establish collaborative and productive relationships with team members working on projects to achieve agreed evaluation outcomes.

Key Challenges

• Identifying new and innovative approaches and tools and embedding these in the culture and behaviours of the division to encourage collaboration, agile decision making and accountability
• Managing complex and sensitive consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders, within agreed timelines, given their varying expectations, viewpoints and interests
• Achieving multiple project objectives, given limited resources and tight deadlines, and the need to identify project interdependencies and balance competing demands and priorities.

Essential Requirements

• Demonstrated expertise in business intelligence with strong data analytical skills.
• Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Human Resource Management or relevant discipline
