Communications Specialist: Engagement, Policy & Media - NSW Government
Location: Parramatta, Sydney, in a Hybrid environment with great WFH flexibility
Rate: $650 - $700 per day + Super
Contract Length: 6 months with probable extension
Note: Must have experience writing for a Government department or creation within a regimented framework/style-guide.

We are currently seeking an experienced Communications Specialist for our NSW Government client who will be responsible for the the development of communications, engagement and communication strategies which encourage innovation, ensure best practice in communications, build reputation, and are aligned to continuous improvement principles.
Contribute engagement and communication advice to identify opportunities to enhance the quality, effectiveness, and accessibility of communications.

Candidates must have experience in:

1. Writing compelling and defensible comms for an array of stakeholders. This may include supporting policy, high profile program and strategic plan narrative development and associated external comms (including media).
2. Demonstrative strength in visual design (Adobe or In-design) and production
3. Assisting with driving stakeholder engagement.

Keys to Role:

  • Strong writing skills, including for internal stakeholders, schools, students and teachers;
  • The ability to absorb complex concepts and communicate clearly and concisely;
  • Experience in internal communications, government or education would be a benefit;
  • An eye for detail; creativity, innovation and strategy
  • As well as the ability to operate independently in a flexible work environment;
  • A broad skill set including graphic design, AEM, accessibility compliance or multimedia skills would be a benefit to the role.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage communications channels and the development and delivery of key plans and collateral that support key business objectives.
  • Develop engaging materials including production of written, visual and audio content, with consistent and accurate messaging, using communications best practice including accessibility, that meet the wide-ranging information needs of audiences and engage with strategic working groups and/or project teams to review, edit and proof communications collateral.
  • Support the development of policy documents and strategies for both internal and external audiences.
  • Undertake research, analysis, impact assessments and benefits realization strategies of project deliverables that support the implementation of key reforms and use initiative in investigating and identifying proactive opportunities. This includes applying analytical, quantitative, and qualitative skills to monitor impact and support the enhancement of effective communication and better use of existing communication channels.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on the outcomes of communications and marketing projects to ensure continual improvement and to help inform future projects and campaigns.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to identify and resolve issues, facilitate information flow and support the achievement of project objectives.

Project & Team:

This is a high-profile project led by the NSW Premier and Education Minister.
Project is a research pilot looking at ways to maximise the school day to better suit the needs of students and parents in the 21st century. As such it is high profile and has a lot of media attention.
Requires the candidate to have the right energy to collaborate with team members.
